SECURITY AND VOTER PRIVACY

VotingPlace.net uses conservatively firewalled servers with minimal attack surface. Our servers are housed in secured and reinforced Data Centers. In addition, VotingPlace.net employs automated intrusion detection systems which would immediately notify our staff in the event of any unusual activity on a server.

As an "above and beyond" measure for ensuring data privacy, we encrypt all voter records and ballots using a Blowfish strong-encryption cipher before storing them in our databases. Ballots are stored unlinked from voter records.

Election-related data transfer between our servers and voter and administrator web browsers is conducted entirely over https SSL (encrypted) protocol.

Voter lists and vote results remain the property of the organization using our Internet voting service, and will not be used by us for any purpose other than the conduct of voting, nor disclosed by us except at the direction of the organization.

ELECTION RELIABILITY AND INTEGRITY

The VotingPlace.net voting web application identifies and authenticates voters, and ensures that only authorized voters vote, and that they cast a vote only once during each election. Voters have email access to support from our staff, in the rare case it should be needed. Organizations using our service may appoint a designated code inspector, who upon signing of a non-disclosure agreement is permitted to review our vote collecting and vote tallying software.

VotingPlace.net technical staff have post-graduate degrees in Computing & Information Science, and Electrical Engineering, respectively, and have been working in the software and systems engineering fields for approximately 20 years, with the senior system developer having 14 years experience building and operating web applications. Our technical solutions are solid. Underlying the voting application software is a reliable network and computing infrastructure. The following statement by our server hosting provider describes their level of service, which applies to VotingPlace.net voting server computers:

Elections are conducted and data recorded on multiple servers using MySql database replication and load-balancing technology. Our voting web application is monitored by a network-level and application-level monitoring and notification system.
